ADMISSIONS

Entry Requirements

Programme-by-programme UTME subject combinations and O\'Level requirements for every undergraduate degree offered at FUSTKABO.

Two Routes Into the University

FUSTKABO admits undergraduate students through two routes recognised by the National Universities Commission: the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) into 100 level, and Direct Entry into 200 level for holders of approved advanced-level qualifications.

Whichever route you take, the O\'Level requirement is the same and it is not negotiable: five (5) credit passes obtained at not more than two sittings, including English Language and Mathematics, together with the subject combination prescribed for your chosen programme.

Requirements published here are the minimum. Because admission is competitive, candidates are ranked on UTME score, screening performance and O\'Level grades, and departmental cut-off marks in practice sit above the published minimum for the more heavily subscribed programmes.

The O\'Level Rule — Read This Carefully

Every candidate must present five (5) credit passes at not more than two sittings, and those five must include English Language and Mathematics. This applies to all programmes in all ten faculties, including Direct Entry candidates who already hold a diploma or NCE.

Results from three or more sittings are not acceptable under any circumstances, and no waiver is granted for a pass (grade D7 or below) in English Language or Mathematics. A credit is C6 or better in WAEC, NECO and NABTEB.

Candidates awaiting results may apply, but the result must be uploaded to the JAMB portal as soon as it is released. Admission cannot be processed while the O\'Level field on the JAMB profile is empty.

Additional Conditions That Apply to All Candidates

These conditions are applied at screening and again at physical clearance. Failure on any of them voids an offer of admission at whatever stage it is discovered.

  • The names on your JAMB profile, O'Level result and all supporting documents must be identical in spelling and order.
  • Candidates for professional programmes in Clinical Sciences, Nursing Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences and Allied Health Sciences must pass a medical fitness examination at the university health centre.
  • The minimum age for admission is sixteen (16) years as at 1 October of the year of admission, in line with national policy.
  • Certificates awarded by unaccredited institutions or examination bodies not recognised by the Federal Ministry of Education are not accepted.
  • A candidate found to have presented a forged or altered document is withdrawn immediately, reported to JAMB and referred to the appropriate law enforcement agency.
  • Transfer candidates from other universities must present an official transcript and a letter of good standing, and are admitted only where a vacancy exists in the receiving department.
  • Admission into any programme remains provisional until the candidate completes physical clearance with original documents on the Kabo campus.
  • Meeting the published minimum requirement does not confer a right to admission; all offers are made on merit and subject to the availability of places approved by the NUC.

Requirement Questions Answered

I have five credits but Mathematics is a pass, not a credit. Can I still apply?
No. A credit in Mathematics is mandatory for every programme in the university, as is a credit in English Language. You would need to re-sit Mathematics, remaining within the two-sitting limit, before your application can be considered.
Can I use three sittings if I have all the credits I need?
No. The two-sitting limit is a national requirement applied through JAMB CAPS, and the university has no discretion to waive it. Credits accumulated across three or more sittings will not be accepted at screening.
My UTME subject combination is wrong for my chosen course. What can I do?
Apply to JAMB for a change of course to a programme matching the subjects you actually sat, or a change of subject combination where the JAMB window allows it. The university cannot admit a candidate whose UTME subjects do not satisfy the requirement for the programme.
Does FUSTKABO accept GCE results?
Yes. WAEC GCE (private candidates) results are accepted on the same basis as WAEC school candidates results, as are NECO and NABTEB. All are subject to the same five credit and two-sitting rules.
Is there a different cut-off mark for indigenes of Kano State?
Admission is conducted under the national policy on merit, catchment area and educationally less developed states. Merit accounts for the largest share of places, with the remainder distributed under the catchment and ELDS quotas. Being an indigene does not lower the minimum requirement, but it may affect ranking within the catchment allocation.
I hold an ND in a field unrelated to the degree I want. Will it count?
Direct Entry admission requires subject relevance. An ND in Computer Science, for example, supports Direct Entry into Computer Science or Information Technology, but not into Nursing Science. Where relevance is doubtful the department makes the final determination during screening.
Do I need to sit UTME if I am applying by Direct Entry?
You do not sit the UTME examination, but you must still register with JAMB for Direct Entry, pay the JAMB Direct Entry fee and select FUSTKABO. Without a JAMB Direct Entry registration your admission cannot be processed on CAPS and will not be recognised by the NUC.
