ACADEMICS
Faculties and Departments
Ten faculties delivering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in computing, science, engineering, the built environment, health sciences and management.
A University Built on Applied Strength
The Federal University of Science and Technology, Kabo is organised into ten faculties, each headed by a Dean elected by the Faculty Board and each subdivided into academic departments led by Heads of Department. Faculty Boards report to the Senate, which is the supreme academic authority of the University and approves all curricula, examination results and academic awards.
Because the University grew out of Federal Polytechnic Kabo, its teaching culture is unusually hands-on. Laboratories, studios and workshops that once served National Diploma and Higher National Diploma students have been re-equipped for degree work, and the emphasis on practical competence has been retained rather than diluted. Every engineering, environmental and computing student undertakes the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) placement, and health science students rotate through affiliated hospitals and primary health care facilities in Kano State.
All programmes are run in accordance with the National Universities Commission Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards and, where applicable, the requirements of the relevant professional regulator: COREN for engineering, MDCN for medicine, PCN for pharmacy, NMCN for nursing, MLSCN for medical laboratory science, ARCON and ESVARBON for the built environment professions, and CPN for computing.
