ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY
About FUSTKABO
The Federal University of Science and Technology, Kabo is Nigeria's newest federal university of science and technology, established in Kano State to widen access to rigorous, employable, science-led higher education.
Who We Are
The Federal University of Science and Technology, Kabo (FUSTKABO) is a Federal Government of Nigeria university located in Kabo Local Government Area of Kano State. It was created by an Act of the National Assembly through the upgrading of the former Federal Polytechnic Kabo, and is licensed and regulated by the National Universities Commission (NUC). The University admits students through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and through Direct Entry.
FUSTKABO exists to answer a specific national need. Nigeria produces far more candidates for higher education than its universities can absorb, and the shortfall is sharpest in the science, technology, engineering, health and computing disciplines that the economy most urgently requires. The University was conceived as a specialised institution, concentrating its faculties, staffing and capital investment on those fields rather than spreading itself thinly across every discipline.
Building on more than three decades of technical and vocational education delivered by Federal Polytechnic Kabo, the University retains what worked best in that inheritance — workshop practice, laboratory competence, industrial attachment and a genuinely hands-on teaching culture — and places it inside a full university structure of Faculties, Departments, Senate and Governing Council, with degree, postgraduate and research mandates.
The campus occupies a spacious site on the Kano–Kabo axis, within comfortable reach of Kano city and its industrial, commercial and health-sector employers. That proximity is deliberate: it keeps our students close to the hospitals, factories, utilities, software firms and construction companies where they will complete their industrial training and, in time, build their careers.

Mission, Vision and Philosophy
Three statements adopted by the Governing Council set the direction of everything the University does.
Our Vision
To be a leading African university of science and technology — recognised for the quality of its graduates, the relevance of its research and its measurable contribution to national development.
Our Mission
To provide accessible, world-class education in science, technology, engineering, health and management; to advance knowledge through research that addresses real Nigerian problems; and to serve our host communities with integrity and competence.
Our Philosophy
That knowledge is proved by application. Every programme couples theory with laboratory, workshop, studio, clinical or field practice, so that a FUSTKABO graduate can do the work, not merely describe it.
Our Core Values
Six commitments govern how staff and students of this University conduct themselves.
Excellence
We hold ourselves to the standards of the best universities on the continent, in teaching, in examination and in research output. Nothing less is acceptable in a federal institution.
Integrity
Academic honesty, transparent admission, merit-based appointment and prudent stewardship of public funds. Examination malpractice, plagiarism and corruption have no place here.
Inclusion
The University is open to qualified Nigerians of every state, faith and background, and works actively to raise the participation of women and of candidates from educationally disadvantaged communities.
Innovation
We reward original thinking, entrepreneurship and the practical solution of local problems, from off-grid energy to agricultural processing and digital public services.
Service
A university that is indifferent to its neighbours has failed. We extend our laboratories, clinics and expertise to the people of Kabo, Kano State and the wider North-West.
Responsibility
Care for the environment, for safety in laboratories and workshops, and for the welfare of every student entrusted to us by their families.
A Campus Built for Practical Science
Because FUSTKABO inherited a functioning polytechnic estate, the University did not begin from bare ground. Existing engineering workshops, science laboratories, lecture theatres, hostels and staff quarters were surveyed, refurbished and re-equipped to university specification, while new faculty buildings, a central library complex, a teaching health facility and additional student residences are being delivered under a phased development plan supported by the Federal Government and TETFund.
Development is sequenced so that no student is admitted into a programme before the teaching space, equipment and academic staff for that programme are in place — a discipline the University considers non-negotiable, and one on which NUC resource-verification exercises are conducted.
- Refurbished engineering and technology workshops from the polytechnic era
- New faculty laboratories built to NUC resource-verification standards
- Central library with electronic resources and digital reading rooms
- On-campus male and female halls of residence with 24-hour security
- Reliable power through grid supply supplemented by solar and standby generation
- Campus-wide fibre backbone and wireless internet access for staff and students
What Makes FUSTKABO Different
Prospective students, parents and partners most often ask what distinguishes this University from the older institutions around it.
- A single-minded focus on science, technology, health and management — we do not attempt to teach everything.
- Hands-on inheritance: a technical teaching culture carried over from three decades of polytechnic practice, now delivered at degree level.
- Mandatory industrial training (SIWES) and structured clinical or field placement in every professional programme.
- Modest, transparent federal fees, with bursaries and scholarship linkages for indigent and high-performing students.
- Small early cohorts, giving new students real access to their lecturers rather than anonymity in an overcrowded hall.
- A location that places students within reach of Kano's hospitals, industries and technology employers.
Accreditation and Regulatory Status
FUSTKABO is a Federal Government university operating under the supervision of the National Universities Commission. Programmes are admitted only after NUC resource verification, and professional programmes are additionally subject to the requirements of their statutory councils — among them the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria, the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). Candidates are advised to confirm the current accreditation status of any programme with the Office of the Registrar before applying.
